Year 3 - Final Year
Filming, Editing and Losing My Mind11/5/2019 I can start to see the light at the end of this rather long and, frankly, very stressful journey. Hopefully by the end it has all been worth it. I have found my footage to be better than I expected and with the help of the second site in Scotland I have been able to gather the close ups and the sounds that will make my film complete, which has sent me over the moon. I can start to stitch together all of the pieces of footage after I have filmed the interview (which is next Monday eep!). Mr Alexander is fantastic and I think he will do great, I just have to write the questions and film it correctly now for this all to come together. This history aspect is the only part of this jigsaw that I am truly worried about, well, apart from the grades and marking and judgement of it all. After speaking with the curator of the estate, it looks like there will be no photographs or videos that I can insert into the film to give me this extra aspect. In a way I am glad as it will all be my own work, however it adds more pressure to make to footage the same quality and carry the same message and impact that I have achieved to make it a worthwhile film for the audience (whoever decides they want to watch it) to see. Excuse the mess, but this is the current story plan living on the mirror in my uni room. I found this method helped to breakdown the idea after it had been discussed by not only myself, mum and dad, but also by 3 uni lecturers. So it better be good after all this advice and wisdom! Ha! Depending on the time available and the interest of the visitors to the site on the days of filming, I may lose the public opinions. Working with the public in shoots like this in the past has been difficult to get their thoughts, as may are nervous about speaking on camera as well as where the footage will be seen. Also, I think I might have enough footage and information to cover. This is why a rough cut will be really useful. I can work with the lecturers again to gain their opinion and we can work together to get rid of the trashy bits and enhance angles that are hidden and deserve to have some more time on the screen.
Working on this project alongside reading insanely complex academic articles for my dissertation preparation has been really difficult. It doesn't help that I have had to take a week out of work and uni studies due to ill health. I have found an organisation strategy that works for me and it involves a lot more post-it notes! I better get stocked up for next semester! Counting down the days till Christmas break and wishing them closer but also to slow down as deadlines are starting to really creep up now. One last year and that is my university career finished, and if my work looks like how I plan it to as well as maintaining the quality of my footage and photographs I will be thrilled to graduate no matter what the cost!
